Sale windy hill butterfly bush flower with butterfly

Buddleia davidii 'Windy Hill' (butterfly bush)

Next available Monday or Tuesday

Unavailable Available Only few left Out of Stock Pre-order

Windy Hill butterfly bush has lavender flower heads and, like all butterfly bushes, it has the flower power one craves - reblooming freely on new growth from summer through fall, as long as it's actively growing (it flowers on new growth).

Where perfectly cold hardy this is a large shrub; in colder regions of zone 5, treat it like a perennial and watch it grow 4-5' during the summer.

The cultivar 'Windy Hill' is the most cold hardy butterfly bush, says every writer over and over. We'd like to add that in our nursery it surprised us by staying more semi-evergreen and starting to shoot out new growth way before our other types. Even in a 1-gallon pot we see that it really is more cold hardy, to the point of being adamantly more cold hardy. So, what does that mean for you? It means that we now believe the hype that it is who it says it is.

Is this cold hardy in zone 5?
Yes, 'Windy Hill' is the most cold hardy butterfly bush so, depending on your microclimate, you may be able to grow it as a woody shrub, but in the harshest winters, you may have to accept that it will be an herbaceous perennial that dies to the ground and grows back 4-5' during the summer.

Is this a weed?
In some states, yes, but we haven't see it on the loose in the South.
