Shrub

After the vivid red new growth of Lagerstroemia Coral Magic matures to glossy green, the salmon-pink flowers give a second louder and longer-lasting color display.

Coral Magic crapemyrtle flowers earlier than the other Lagerstroemia we carry, so if you're working on succession flowering and starting the season sooner, add this one to your mix.

Cut off spent flowers to extend the season even further with another flush of growth and reblooming by the end of summer.

Coral Magic crapemyrtle is one of four First Editions® crapemyrtles that we grow.

  • red new growth
  • reblooms a second time if prune off the first round of spent flower heads
  • flower power for a long duration
  • red new growth
  • heat tolerant
  • drought tolerant once established
  • deer resistant
  • pollinator plant

How do I prune this crapemyrtle?
Since this is a shorter-statured crapemyrtle, there is no need to prune it, unless you want to deadhead any seed heads that form.

Since 'Coral Magic' is a rebloomer, we recommend cutting of the spent flower heads to encourage another flush of growth and reblooming in the same summer.

The best article we have read on pruning crapemyrtles is by Steve Bender, The Grumpy Gardener.
